Addition - Palmetto Construction and Renovations 1
The old garage was being used as a family room - with an old area rug, an old couch, and an old TV - so the family could watch sports and the kids could play video games. However, it had no windows, no access to the driveway, still had the garage door, and it was an unconditioned space. The project focused on raising the floor of the garage to the height of the main house, adding a half bath, creating a mudroom in the new entry from the driveway, and adding windows. To do this, the roll-up garage door and paneling was removed. The floor was raised, and four new windows and a door were installed.
A new covered stoop was added with slate tile installed on the concrete porch floor. Custom cubbies were added inside the new mudroom at the back door. The cubbies contain upper lockers and lower drawers for shoe storage.
A dark slate tile was installed throughout and the entire space was freshly painted, except for the new bathroom, but we'll get to that in a minute. Custom cabinets were added to hold a new TV and game consoles, and provide ample storage. A new mini-split HVAC unit was installed and keeps the family room comfortable year-round.
For the half bath, wallpaper was installed and sconce lights were added to the walls and can lights in the ceilings. Now this space offers additional functionality and the added convenience needed for a young family.
