Outdoor Living - Palmetto Construction and Renovations
The owner of this Lake Murray home decided to create an outdoor space that would fully maximize the views of the lake while creating some space for entertaining.
The open porch features a partial brick wall facing the road side to create some privacy while remaining fully open on the lake side to maximize the views. Half brick columns add some architectural interest. Matching brick steps were added inside the porch as well as a cascading set of steps down toward the lake. A black aluminum handrail wraps the remaining porch and steps.
The ceiling is stained cypress tongue and groove with a clear polyurethane coating. Can lights and two ceiling fans in black were installed which works well with the natural ceilings. A cut flagstone floor was installed which works well in the space.
Round composite columns and some heavy molding detail were added to the beams along with a simple light rail that adds some soft accent lighting.
The two focal points are the large masonry fireplace with a rough sawn cypress mantle and an outdoor kitchen that includes granite countertops, a gas grill and sink, and a large food prep area. With the addition of a TV over the fireplace, the family has a great place to gather for meals, as well as relax in the evenings.
